In New Jersey, direct access allows patients to see a licensed physical therapist without a physician’s referral for evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. This means you can begin receiving physical therapy care promptly, while the therapist assesses your needs and determines if further medical clearance is necessary.  All physical therapy services are provided in accordance with the New Jersey State Physical Therapy Practice Act (P.L.1983, c.296) and the regulations set forth by the State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. Services are delivered under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, as defined by N.J.S.A. 45:9-37.13.
